Winter Teams Update

Holiday teams camp is over and we will not have snow for the next scheduled practice this weekend so we will forego practice Saturday and Sunday (January 2nd and 3rd).

No Practice this weekend.

We have really just exhausted our dryland training ideas over the last five days. Thank you to coaches, parents and athletes for participating in a full week of activity.I think everyone did the best they could without being open for skiing.

Snow making weather is forecast to return tonight/tomorrow and we hope to be on snow next weekend.

Stayed tuned for updates and Happy New Year

We believe everyone has arranged a ride to practice and back. If for some reason you do not have a ride let us know via email to as soon as possible today. If you are leaving from Wintergreen you should plan to leave by 12:45 pm as it takes one hour to get to snowflex.

The Race Team and D team will practice again at Wintergreen and will meet again at the race office in Lot 2 at 8 am. This practice will run from 8 am-10 am tomorrow ending a bit early to accommodate those going to the services for Richard Wyly in Leesburg tomorrow.

The plan is for the Race and D team to go to the ice center Wednesday. We will need to arrive at the Ice rink in Charlottesville at 12:30 pm and skate for 1 pm-2 pm. It is located on the West End of the Downtown Mall. We will talk more about this and transportation tomorrow in Lot 2 at practice drop off.

Winter Teams Holiday Camp update Saturday Dec 26th

This update is for the first day of Teams Holiday Camp starting tomorrow Sunday December 27th.

Freeride team will have snow to slide on at Wintergreen! Do not get to excited as it is a small patch and you will have to hike and ride. Coach Mike Bailey will be heading up the practice on a rail or two. Please come to the snowsports school back deck with your equipment and ready to go at 8 am.

Race Team and D-Team will not be on snow tomorrow. We lost too much with heavy rains for that to be possible. We do however have a large set of ski related drills to keep us busy and work strength and conditioning specific to ski movements and other activities to fill the day tomorrow.

Come to the race office in lot #2 at 8 am. Please wear sweats and sneakers and be prepared to run, jog and hike. Don’t forget to bring some water and maybe a snack.

Please stay tuned for the update for Practice on Monday.

Wintergreen Winter Teams update Thursday December 24th 2015

The Winter Teams Program will have practice each morning of the Holiday Camp Sunday December 27th-Thursday December 31st. Practice times will be as scheduled 8am-11am each morning.

The slopes will not be open however the Snowmaking crew will attempt to push the remaining snow together so we can get some on snow time. We will have to wait and see what they can do with what is left in a few days to know if this can happen.

We also have indoor and off snow activities we can do.

  • We have the Ballroom area to watch ski and snowboard related videos if we need to.
  • If we do not have snow there is a chance the Freeride team can plan a couple of sessions at Snowflex in Lynchburg with our coaches.
  • The Race and development teams might take a day and drive to the LaHaye Ice center in Lynchburg where we can work on edging drills.
  • Lots of hiking and maybe a fun day at Lake Monocan.

We will need to be flexible with our scheduling and if we decide to travel to these remote sites we might need some additional transportation. We can discuss this at the boosters meeting Sunday afternoon.

Please do us a favor and let us know via email if you plan to be at practice Sunday the 27th and your plan for the rest of the camp days through the 31st.

Please stay connected by subscribing to the Blog at for updates and schedule changes. Thank you.

This practice is open to all team members. We hope to see everyone at Wintergreen this weekend.

Please take a moment now and send a quick reply to  so we know who is coming and how many to plan for the cookout (Ribs, chicken, pork, fixins)

Still no snow at Wintergreen!

The air is not cold and there is no snow here at Wintergreen to slide on. This is not a new thing in the south. It is however a little frustrating because of the early openings we have experienced over the past couple of years.

Wintergreen Race team will not practice this weekend. We will set our sights on Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th of December.

Enjoy the warm weather, stay active and know that winter is coming, snow is coming and we will be in the start gate soon.

As always if you have questions email or call direct,
