Development Team Update

This weekend will be our annual d-team crazy helmet contest!  Skiers should come to practice with helmets decorated in some fashion.  To give you an idea of what this means, in the past we’ve had rock stars, princesses, even themed helmets such as ‘Luck of the Irish’.  The judging will be held on Sunday at the start of practice to give skiers and coaches an opportunity on Saturday to get creative.

Crazy helmet contest rules:
1. Helmet must still fit properly with chin strap buckled.
2. The crazier the better.

On Sunday there will be a synchronized skiing display.  This will be held on the top of Eagle’s Swoop at 9 am, bring your cowbells and cheer your skiers on!  Coaches will be practicing synchronized skiing formations with groups on Saturday to prepare.

Looking forward to the weekend!
Leah Chaldares

Austria Camp Summer 2015

I have great news about our camp in Austria next summer. I have over 40 people interested in the camp and a lot interested in the additional sightseeing afterward. I can safely say we will have reached our critical mass number of 25 people to make the camp a reality. So here are instructions for the second stage of the process.

I need to take deposits on the camp. I am asking for $500 per person now the remainder by May 15th. If you are going and you would be so kind as to call me with a credit card number for the deposit. 434-989-2541. This will allow me to define how many are fully committed and start compiling a true roster. I would ask you to hold off on booking flights until I have 25 deposits and then I will send detailed flight time information.

We were unable to receive much of a deal on group flights. The airlines seem to charge a premium for group rates as they feel they are doing you a favor with this service. I don’t understand it but that is the way it is.

On a brighter note flight prices have been dropping a bit and I have some deals to mention. Coach flights are at a wide range and if you are into saving money on flights the cheapest is around $950.00 per person from Dulles to Munich on Aeroflot airlines. This is a Russian airline and flies through Moscow. They used to be not so good but are getting good reviews now and have a lot of new aircraft. This is the Cheapest you can fly and if you use the booking website they consistently have this price point available.

The next best flight is Iceland air. The service is very good and you can find deals around $1200.00. After that you start getting to the other airlines we all know and prices range from $1300-$1800.

I know that many of you will have your preferences and some will use points and you might have a preferred airline so you will eventually need to make your own decisions.

As soon as I have 25 deposits I will share more flight time info and we can start the booking process. The sooner everyone gets me their deposits the sooner we can start. Thank you

Francis Piche Invitational

Francis Piche Invitational 2015

It is time to think about post season racing in the northeast! One of the events that SARA racers participate in and have had some amazing results in is the Francis Piche Invitational at Gunstock Mountain in Southern New Hampshire on March 13th, 14th and 15th

This event is open to U12 and U14 Boys and Girls. We have spots for 20 U12 athletes (10 boys/10 girls) and 16 U14 athletes (8 boys/8 girls). Yes there is a spot for anyone who wants to go and this is a great way to see the next level of competition.

We compete as individuals and as a SARA team in GS and SL against racers and teams from all the state organizations in the east. There is also a training day with an introduction to Super Giant Slalom course for the racers.

There is no need to wait for SARA Championships to start making plans for this event. If you have a top fifteen race finish in your age category this season in SARA you are invited to participate.

SARA Coaches will be representing the SARA athletes again this year. We will take registrations and race fees, communicate with gunstock race officials, handle coaching on the race days, suggest lodging options and organize evening socials.

If you are interested in participating in this race or to receive more information please send an email ASAP to Chris Shepard.

Let’s represent SARA as a team in the Northeast!

Additional Information;

Cost for Friday Training day and Saturday GS race is $135.00

Cost for Sunday SL is $50

Most families stay at the Fireside Inn in Gilford, NH. We usually have a potluck dinner with all the families on Saturday night there.

Again send an email to to receive a full packet of info and instructions on how to register.
