The next two weekends represent the last two scheduled practices for the Wintergreen Winter teams. It has been a great winter and there is still good quality snow and terrain and cold air to make the next two weekends very valuable
Our teams have been all over the mid-Atlantic the past couple of weeks with Championship races at Snowshoe to Freeride competitions at Seven Springs to races at Massanutten and lots of competition at Wintergreen Slopestyle and Doublecross events.
Our athletes are winning medals at all of these events and the number of athletes placing is very impressive. Racers can see results at Live-timing.com and Freeride team members can see results at USASA.org for details. Congratulations to all Wintergreen Athletes participating in these events.
This coming weekend the U10-U14 Race team will be at Sugar Mountain for their Championships.
D-team will practice here both days 7:45am-11am
U16-U21 race team will practice here both days 7:45am-11am
Freeride team will practice here both days 7:45am-11am
The following weekend (March 8th and 9th) on Saturday at 12pm we will have a cookout at the fire pit near the Dome arcade similar to what we did at Thanksgiving. I hope everyone can attend. We will have the final D-team race on that weekend as well (Sunday).
The team pictures are available for viewing and purchase at this website fstopphoto.zenfolio.com/wintergreen Once you are there the Password is Slalom2014 (capital S). Please take a look and place your orders directly through the site
It is time to think about post season racing in the northeast! One of the events that SARA racers participate in is the Francis Piche Invitational at Gunstock Mountain in Southern New Hampshire on March 14th, 15th and 16th
This event is open to U12 and U14 Boys and Girls. Last year we took 26 athletes from SARA to this three day event. We compete as individuals and as a SARA team in GS and SL. There is also a training day with introduction to Super Giant Slalom course for the racers.
There is no need to wait for SARA Championships to start making plans for this event. If you have a top ten race finish in your age category this season in SARA you are invited to participate.
Wintergreen Coaches will be representing the SARA athletes again this year. We will take registrations and race fees, communicate with gunstock race officials, handle coaching on the race days, suggest lodging options and organizing evening socials.
If you are interested in participating in this race or to receive more information please send an email ASAP to Chris Shepard. email@example.com
Let’s represent SARA as a team in the Northeast!
The Challenge is on again this year.SARA will be taking a team of U16 and older athletes to the Eastern High School Alpine Championships, This year the races will be held at Attitash, NH.I have secured Lodging at a Hampton Inn in North Conway. This race is great way to end your season, competing at team against some of the best racers in the Northeast. Last year, with a very small team we put up highly respectable results. And this year with improved participation we should really be able to compete. We can take 12 Men and 12 Women. The top 6 Male and Female finishers in each run score points for our team. The races are also scored for individual competitors, so it is also a great opportunity to lower your USSA points. The schedule is as Follows:Thursday March 6 – Travel via either Train to Boston or Plane to Manchester, NHTransportation from both places will be provided for individuals on the team.Friday March 7 – Training Day for teams – We will train both GS and SlalomTransportation will be provided to and from Hotel to Attitash for each DaySaturday, March 8 – Slalom RaceSaturday Night March 8 – BanquetSunday March 9 – GS RaceSunday Night March 9th – Transportation provided to manchester Airport for flights homeMonday Am March 10th – transportation provided to Boston for Train Home.Cost:If we have 24 Athletes The cost will be around $ 950 per athlete (Including Lodging, Meals(except Lunch), Ground Transportation, and Race Fees)If we have only 12 Athletes the cost could be as high as 1275 per athlete.. The more Athletes we have the cheaper it is and more fun we have.If you are interested, please contact Coach Paul from Wintergreen434 960 9616Please pass this note onto anyone whom you may think is interested and copy me on your note.
From The SARA Website

U16-21 racers will bring World Cup points for their best 8 runs (U16) or 4 races (U18-21) into the Championships, these points will be combined with the points earned for both races at Championships to determine the top five SARA Champions in each age group and gender.
U10-14 racers will earn World Cup points for each of their four runs at Championships to determine the top five SARA Champions in each age group and gender.
Saturday February 15th, Winter Teams pictures have been canceled for today. We plan to take pictures tomorrow after practice same time and location as was scheduled for today.
The Parade is still on please bring your torches and signs to the top of the Highlands lift at 11am. Thank you
Since a lot of Race team members are here today (Friday February 14th) we will set some Slalom gates for practice at 4pm on Eagle Swoop. Please come and use this time for extra practice.
The Parade tomorrow will start at the top of Highlands. If you have torches or signs parents should look to get them to the highlands at 11am. You can park at the top and walk them down from your car. We will use whatever the parents can get to that location. Thank you
Also Coach Henry has some cool USA baseball caps for sale for $20 each. Proceeds benefit the US ski team. He will have them at warm-ups tomorrow and you can also buy them at the Ski School.
Next weekend, Saturday Feb 15th – Monday Feb 17th, is Presidents Day weekend. We will have a full weekend of training and fun. There are a couple of things happening for all teams;
- Saturday will be team Picture day. Individual and group team pictures will be taken at the top of the highlands lift. Freeride team at 10am D-team at 10:30am and race team at 11:00am.
- Saturday after team pictures all three teams will participate in an on snow Parade to celebrate USSA club day and the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Whaaaat….. Yes we will form a parade and move slowly down the Wild Turkey slope from 11:40am-12pm guided by your coaches. This is a national parade and we are joining many other US teams to create a day long parade in which all teams are given back to back 20 minute slots. Open this link to see the national parade map. 14_NCD_ParadeMap_FA
What we need to do. First all race team members who have one must wear there comp suits. All Team members should prepare some Cardboard Olympic Torches (the More the Merrier) and a couple of banner signs that can be held up by two people on Sticks. The banner signs can say USA, Go Olympians, Wintergreen Race Team, Freeride team etc. Be creative! Please email me and let me know if you will create a sign so I can make a list of them. firstname.lastname@example.org
Practice for all three teams both days and Freeride and D-team on Monday and a USSA Slalom race on Big Acorn on Monday will round out the weekend. Wheew. Let the fun begin.
